Julian Dunkerton, the owner of No. 131 Hotel and Restaurant, has submitted a planning application for a permanent terrace structure at his popular venue in Cheltenham. The proposal, which aims to enhance the hospitality offering in the town, has garnered significant public support, with over 2,000 people signing a petition in favour of the development.

The terrace would provide additional outdoor seating, complementing the existing facilities at No. 131, and further cementing the venue’s role as a key player in Cheltenham’s vibrant hospitality sector. Public comments submitted to Cheltenham Borough Council have overwhelmingly expressed approval, with more than 80% of responses in support of the plan.

Dunkerton, who is a well-known figure in the town and also plays a prominent role in its cultural and economic development, spoke highly of the response to the proposal. “I am delighted by the incredible support from the people of Cheltenham, and I remain committed to investing in the town,” he said.

The new terrace is seen as an important addition to Cheltenham’s hospitality landscape, helping to bolster the town’s appeal as a top destination for both residents and visitors. The public backing reflects a broader recognition of the value this development could bring to the town’s economy, particularly in the post-pandemic era when outdoor dining and public spaces have become increasingly desirable.

No. 131 has long been a favourite among locals and visitors alike, thanks to its stylish setting and high-quality dining experience. The proposed terrace would further enhance the venue’s ability to attract guests and offer a welcoming space for both daytime and evening service.

The development also aligns with broader efforts to strengthen Cheltenham’s reputation as a cultural hub, hosting numerous events and festivals throughout the year. By investing in facilities like the new terrace, Dunkerton hopes to contribute to the long-term growth and prosperity of Cheltenham, ensuring it remains a premier destination for tourists and residents alike.

As the planning application moves forward, the continued public support bodes well for its approval, with many hoping the project will receive the green light soon.
